Dr. Katie Dowell-Barton grew up in Indiana, where she originally developed a strong interest in wildlife and with it-the great outdoors.  She earned her undergraduate degree in Animal Science from Purdue University, followed by her DVM from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign College of Veterinary Medicine.  While working at the University of Illinois Wildlife Medical Clinic, Katie developed a passion for exotic and wildlife medicine where she worked with a wide range of animals from otters to snowy owls.  During vet school she also studied at Chicago's Brookfield Zoo and The Indianapolis Zoo.  Some of her favorite animals to have worked with include the African elephant, western lowland gorilla, white-cheeked turaco and polar bears.  To join family, Katie moved to PNW with her two German Shorthair Pointers.

Outside of being a Veterinarian, Dr. Dowell enjoys running, hunting with her dogs, camping, skiing, or just about anything that gets her out in the great outdoors.  Growing up in Indiana corn fields, she has grown to appreciate the mountains and all the PNW has to offer.  Along with cat and dog medicine, she is excited to offer small animal medicine to you and your pets.
